what we do

Lane Cove Hobby Ceramics has recently moved to 66 Dalrymple Avenue, Chatswood (near the corner of Ivy Street), so before you pay us a visit, consult your street directory.

Many people will recall our previous premises at 541 Pacific Highway Artarmon where the studio was located for 12 years.

DO I NEED TO BE ARTISTIC?

You do not have to be ‘artistic’ to get a great deal of pleasure from hobby ceramics. We have many designs suitable for the beginner. And designs can be easily traced from an original work and transposed onto the plate, vase, bowl or mug you are working on.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

If you decide to get a little serious about ceramics, there is a 10 week course specifically designed to develop your skills by introducing more complex techniques as you progress. At the conclusion of this course you will have an excellent grasp of all the basic techniques and skills to enable you to move on to more creatively challenging pieces.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The process begins by selecting the piece you wish to paint. The basic ceramic piece begins as ‘greenware’ and is available in all shapes and sizes, so it is up to you as to how much you wish to spend. An $8.00 greenware piece will require 2 firings and cost $20.00 (plus paints) by the time it is finished.

• Classes are of two and a half hours duration. A casual class costs just $22.00.
• A course of 10 classes costs $190 (payable in advance – saving $30.00 on casual fees).
• Add-on class time is charged at $8.00 per half hour, or part thereof.
